So last week my overprotective wife made me go to the Doctor for a Checkup. I knew I was in trouble when before I even saw the Doc I learned I had shrunk a half an inch and gained 20 pounds. Shorter and Fatter....hmm, not good I don't think.

For some reason, the Doc thought it would be a good idea to get some bloodwork done. Cholesterol and all that fun stuff.

The results were in and they didn't want to tell me over the phone . I had an appointment today to go over them and since I was still in the blissful state of ignorance I decided it would be in my best interest to stop at McDonald's for a couple of cheeseburgers.

It was a good decision.

I have just one word to say about my test results....

Booooooooo

The Doc gave had a couple of requests...one that I cut back on the beer and wine. Two, that I watch my diet a little closer and in the next 5 or 6 weeks I shed about 5 to 10 pounds and follow up with some more blood work to check for improvement. Sounds like a lot of fun and I am really looking forward to it.

Well, I am on vacation this week so it really isn't the best time to cut back on my wine intake but I'm going to give it my best shot. Today is a gray, drizzly day in the Seattle area and I was at Costco for a few odds and ends when I saw this bottle of wine.

I'm so weak, but the name just called out for me to buy it. Sadly, the first thing I thought of wasn't my Doctors orders but that it would make for a funny blog that could be filed under the "Too Much Information" category.

My sister Meg had a baby girl yesterday in Portland. We're heading down to see her in the morning so watch for pictures by tomorrow night.

Take care,

Mat

Ah that doctor is a quack. Bring him some of those articles that tell you that drinking red wine is good for your body. Cut out the deep fried restaurant prawns and you'll shed those 5 or 50 lbs. Don't give up on the grape extract tho ;-)

Moderation is always the key to life, unfortunately. Then again, living life to the fullest means never showing restraint when it comes to your wife and kids. Wives are good at wanting to see you live past the odds, thank her for keeping you alive. Welcome to getting older, sucks, huh?

You could have hereditary cholesterol as I do. Taking a pill every day to help. That, along with modifying my diet and exercise saw my cholesterol drop dramatically. Then wedding season hit and my butt is parked in front of this computer!

Wine is wonderful, but the calories are high. 250 calories per glass of wine. If you're like me, it's easy to quickly drink 1,000 calories! :)

Your day job can't be helping any...looks like those salads are just what the doctor ordered.

Oh man, I think it's normal to shrink a little when you are putting on the pounds-it's just gravity.

Listen, isn't Lea tone-deafening you about enough stuff already??? The alcohol has some healthy qualities, not to mention working as a marriage numbing device.

Maybe you should try to do what's called the wife-jog: When Lea calls out "Mat..." you run and hide.

You will feel better, smell worse probably, but feel better and lose those extra tacos.

Wish u were here!!
